Elon Musk has made a wave of changes since he has taken the reins at Twitter, and one of them could have a direct impact on the Web3 space, particularly when it comes to cryptocurrency and blockchain.
According to The Verge’s Elizabeth Lopatto, Musk texted his brother Kimbal to say: “I think a new social media company is needed that is based on a blockchain and includes payments”, outlining a potential pay structure for how that would look on Twitter.
The report estimates that users pay a “tiny amount” to register their messages on a blockchain, and Musk thinks this will cut out “the vast majority of spam and bots”, but it seems that the recent issues around Twitter Blue authenticity shows that problems will arise.
With the rise of crypto gaming and content creator crypto businesses, it makes sense to explore it, but whether or not Musk’s Twitter can actually have it exist successfully on the platform, remains to be seen.
